Description

This is a lady of the court during the Qing Dynasty. Qing dynasty was the last monarchy in China and was formed by the Manchus. The qipao (cheongsam) that chinese are most famous for are actually inspired by them, who are not really ethnic chinese! They are from Manchuria, who overthrew the Ming Dynasty and purged out 3000 years of Han Chinese clothing (Han Chinese is the majority that made up China's population) when they established their culture into society. Han clothing does not come with buttons but are flowy robes that you tie, and has a collar that crosses from right to the left. The japanese kimono & korean hanbok are derivative from han clothing. Manchu clothing comes with the mandarin collar and is stiff. This artcard is a typical female palace costume. Concubines, princesses wear the huge flowered headdress, platform heels and has an embroidered scarf over the collar.
